You've Got the Write Stuff...

Kate's class held a Writer's Day Celebration on their last day before track out. They had all written sloppy copies (i.e. rough drafts for us old skool people), and then edited, illustrated and typed up their final drafts to display for us parents.

Once all the parents had arrived, Kate & her classmates sat patiently, waiting for their turn to stand at the front of the classroom and read their story. I guess there were some kids who didn't want to read in front of everyone, so Ms. Kronen simply asked for volunteers. Hmmm...do you think Kate was raising her hand (i.e. frantically waving her hand back and forth) or sitting back and letting others read?

Finally, like after forever, Ms. Kronen called on Kate to share her story. I'll be the first to admit that Kate's was not the most detailed or original story. Believe me...I heard some crazy things that day...most "creative" story was about a box of violent crayons. Anyways, my point is that while Kate's story was good, her delivery was excellent! She spoke clearly, used expression, and was loud enough for everyone to hear. One parent turned to me and asked me if she thought Katelyn would end up on TV. What?? And I'm putting money away in her 529 for an acting career? I don't think so. But thanks for the compliment (I think).

So here is Kate's story (just in case you were interested):
We're working on the writing. Her teacher says that while Kate can write, she only wants to write the minimum amount of sentences required. So, again, we are working on it. I did find it humorous that Katelyn said it was the best Valentine's Day she had ever had. I'm hearing this statement a lot lately.

Katelyn and her friend Katie.

Ms. Kronen made ribbons for each student. It's official, she is a STAR WRITER!

And last but not least, I have to share this other funny story from the Writer's Day Celebration. One of Kate's classmates pretty much insisted that he go last (to read his story). So, when Ms. Kronen finally called his name, I was curious as to what he was going to do. He stood up there for awhile, and then announced that in order to read his story, he was going to have to SING it. I kid you not. I thought it was the funniest thing I had heard in a long time. Funny kid. And it got even better when he started singing to the tune of "Indiana Jones". I have NO idea what his story was about, but I found it highly entertaining.
